Thursday, February 27, 2014  (8 am to 12 noon) in English

By Aqua Terra (Panamá)

Aqua Terra presents a panel of LEED accredited professionals who practice LEED in Panama- Juliana Lezama, LEED AP BD+C., Kim Portmess GRP®, LEED AP BD+C, and Maria Fernanda De Mendoza, GRP®, LEED GA- to provide you with a practical overview of the application of the LEED® rating system in Latin America, using references and experiences in the Republic of Panama.

During this course, you will hear first hand about the advantages, as well as the difficulties of building to LEED standards in Latin America. We will also review several credits and pre-requisites in the Core & Shell, New Construction and Commercial Interiors rating systems, and explore how these are applied through different reference case studies in the Republic of Panama.

After this course, you will be able to better understand how to efficiently plan for green building projects in this region, taking into account several variables, such as local weather, resource, material and information availability, lack of regulations, and awareness of the subject.

Learning Objectives:

      1. Comprehend, through project case studies, the idiosyncrasies of the application of the LEED
          rating system in Latin America.

      2. Recognize the benefits and the challenges of green building in Latin America, in order to
prepare for different circumstances with your own projects.

      3. Learn how to market and publicize LEED projects in Latin America, accurately and effectively,
          without falling into green wash.

      4. Understand how to manage projects in a place where, unlike the United States, lacks
regulation around many of the prerequisites that are mandatory for LEED certification.

Who should attend:  Architects, Designers, Engineers, Builders, Contractors, Environmental Consultants, Financiers, Project Developers, LEED Professionals, NGO Managers/Staff, Product Manufacturers/ Distributors and Property Managers/Owners.
